May 18th - 22nd Weekly Materials

Our theme this week is "How can we work together to help each other?"  We are focusing on community helpers, cooperation, and working together.  We will also begin an Animal Unit as an extra activity.  The first week, we will be learning about how humans copy animals and how many inventions have come from observation of the natural world.  The second focus will be learning about how animal parents and offspring both differ from, and resemble each other.  On June 5th, our students will have an opportunity to present either an animal poster, or 3D model of an animal.  These projects will cover our new Science Standards and we hope will give the students another opportunity to showcase their passion and creativity.  I was so impressed with their musical instruments and bridge projects!

Our spelling pattern this week is /o/ as a variant vowel.  The short o sound will be spelled with au and aw.  We will also be learning about possessive pronouns and vowel teams.

We are writing two more birthday letters this week, to Kiley and Sofia.  I would also like the students to send a Thank You letter to our Arts Alive Chair for the classes presented last Friday.  So, that is three writing projects to be turned in...one to Holly Woesner at [email protected] and two to be sent as pdf files to me.

Finally, the students will be taking a chapter review, and cumulative review math test.  Both tests should be exlained to students by the parents, but the students should complete the answers as independently as possible.  I will have the collection box in my driveway so that these tests, and any other materials can be turned in as soon as it is convenient.  The tests will take all week and you are the best judge of how slowly or quickly your child should work through the pages.  Our math group zoom meetings next week will focus on math games as no specific lessons will be in progress.

All the files for the week are listed below.

Thank you again for all your incredible support!
