Week of May 11-15

This week our essential question is, "How can we work together to make our lives better?"  Our stories, both fiction and non-fiction, focus on teamwork.  We are beginning a new chapter in math and we will be learning about calendar and time.  Our first grade standards include telling time to the hour and half hour.  In Spelling, we will be learning the long u sound, but several spelling patterns will be covered including oo, ew, u_e, ue and ui.  This make require extra practice and memorization!

We also need to begin working on our remaining birthday books.  This week, we will write letters to Izzy (May 24th birthday), and Brooklyn (June 11th birthday).  The following weeks we will be making books for our four summer birthday students.  Instead of sending journal entries to me, please send all birthday letters as a pdf file so that I can insert them into a word document.  Thank you.

Finally, Friday is our annual Arts Alive Day!  We will not meet as a class via Zoom, so I will give students the spelling test on Thursday during our small group reading times.  You will be receiving an online schedule to help your child choose their art classes.

All files for the week are included below including our weekly outline, spelling pages, math pages, and grammar page 280.
