May 4 - 8 Weekly Schedule and Materials

This week, our essential question is, "How are things built?'  We will be learning about ships, yurts, and bridges.  We will be making our own bridge to show at our Friday Zoom Meeting.  Please make sure you watch the video, "What Makes Bridges So Strong?", and read the directions for the "Build a Bridge" project.

Also, this week we will be working on Mother's Day projects.  On Tuesday, I will post a video by Mr. Johnson on how to draw a portrait of your Mother.  I have included a special drawing page for you to use.  We also have a special paper, 10 Reasons Why I Love My Mother, and a special Mother's Day Poem.  Students can give all these gifts to their Mothers on Mother's Day.

I am so proud of how hard my first graders are working.  I love the small groups because I can really track their progress.  Thank you so much for joining with me in this difficult time to "co-teach".  I know it is challenging for all of us, but your efforts are so very appreciated.

I have included our Weekly Schedule, Practice Book pages, Grammar pages,  Spelling pages, and our Math pages in this folder.  Our new math chapter focuses on mental math strategies.  Please make sure you review the Student Edition lesson to help "talk through" these strategies with your child.   The Practice Book and Spelling pages are not hyperlinked, but the files can be found down below this message.m

For your journal assignment this week, please submit Wednesday's writing, "Would you rather live on a ship, or in a treehouse?  Why?"  Just send me a picture, or drop it off in my driveway bin.  Also, please remember to send in your spelling test on Friday.

**I just added a page outlining the Mental Math Strategies introduced in this chapter.  I would recommend clicking on the Student Edition in the Think Central section of the portal to have the lesson read aloud.  These are ways to increase speed and fluency with math facts.

Best Wishes for the week ahead.
